Benjamin F. Barker, Jr., age 77 of Billett, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in Vincennes at the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on April 19, 1934 in Henderson, TX to Benjamin, Sr. and Ethel (Capps) Barker. He married Helen Learnard on June 19, 1955 in Canada, and she survives.

Ben was a member of the Billett United Methodist Church. He retired from Marathon Oil Company after 34 years of service. He held many positions while at Marathon: rig operator, gang pusher, and oil well pumper. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as an airplane mechanic. Ben was a BIG fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas Longhorns football teams.

Surviving relatives include: his wife- Helen of Billett: four children- Anthony Lynn Barker and wife Barb of Tomball, TX; Eddie Alan Barker of Centralia, IL; Susan Ann Caughran and husband Keith of Flat Rock, IL; and Linda Marie Dyer and husband Clarence of Lynnville, IN: four brothers and sisters- Genner Brasier of Tyler, TX; JoAnn Walker of Henderson, TX; Caralyn Sherman of Tomball, TX, and Rex Barker of Moore, Oklahoma: eight grandchildren: and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, one son- Glen Barker, and one sister- Mildred Moore.

A memorial service for Benjamin F. Barker, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Billett United Methodist Church.
